Directions:
From I-95, take Exit 94 to Highway 204 to Savannah (Highway 204 turns into Abercorn). Pass the Savannah Mall on the left (approximately 4 miles after taking Exit 94 to Highway 204) . Armstrong Atlantic State University is on the right. Enter the campus at the first traffic light (Science Drive) past the mall intersection. Proceed down Science Drive until it dead ends. Turn right on University Drive. University Hall is on the right. Student parking is just past University Hall. The Police Academy offices are located at the far end of the building upstairs in suite 242. Basic Jail Officer Training
This 80-hour course is mandatory for Georgia Jailer Certification. It covers such chemical weapons. The jail officer is subjected to many high liability duties and training is essential. Please call Harlan Proveaux at the Training Center (912.927.5226) for more information and to register. Registrations will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis by P-2.

Pre-Service Program
The Southeast Georgia Police Academy provides required certification training for law enforcement officers for a nineteen county region. The Pre-Service Program is available for those individuals who desire training before seeking employment in law enforcement. Successful completion of the training enables individuals to become candidates for P.O.S.T. certification.
Currently, the Basic Law Enforcement course is ten weeks. The class meets eight hours per day, five days per week for a total of 404 hours. The cost for pre-service applicants is $2580, however, most applicants receive the HOPE Scholarship. (Pre-Service Applicants will be given HOPE application at the time of the Entrance Exam.)
Tuition and Financial Aid
The Veterans Administration (G. I. Bill) reimburses eligible students, and the HOPE Scholarship pays tuition for eligible Georgia residents. (Pre-Service Applicants will be given HOPE application at the time of the Entrance Exam.)
Entrance Exam
The first step for someone wishing to apply to the Basic Law Enforcement Course is to take and pass the State mandated entrance exam. The exam consists of two sections – Reading Comprehension and Sentence Structure. A picture id is required to take the exam. There is no fee to take the exam and the exam starts at 8:00am. Applicants must pass all sections of the exam in order to proceed with the application process. Please call the Training Center at 912-927-5226 to make a reservation. Please note that the first date that is scheduled for each month is open to pre-service and departmental candidates. The second monthly date is open to departmental candidates only.
Exams will be given in Room 240 of University Hall. Candidates must provide a picture ID (Agencies should send a completed POST entrance exam access form with their applicants). There is no fee to take the exam, however, students should bring a $24 money order made payable to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for fingerprinting cards. *Please park in student parking areas only.
Completing the Program
To complete the program students must maintain good grades and succeed at several performance tests (firearms, CPR, vehicle stops, Emergency Vehicle Operation, judgmental pistol simulation, etc.).

Call the Police Academy at (912) 927-5226 to make a reservation to take the exam. Once the exams are completed successfully, an application will be forwarded to Georgia P.O.S.T. for approval. All applicants must pass a criminal history review as well as a driver's history review. The application process takes 6 - 8 weeks once the application is turned in.
Employment
Law enforcement agencies post job announcements at the training center. Students are assisted with job placement, and most students gain employment prior to graduation.

On behalf of the Staff of Southeast Georgia Police Academy and Georgia Public Safety Training Center we would like to welcome you to your training facility. In order to operate smoothly, efficiently, and to co-exist with the students and faculty of Armstrong Atlantic State University we would ask you to please observe the following rules and regulations.
PARKING
Please park in the student parking lot adjacent (south west) to University Hall and not in parking spots clearly marked as FACULTY parking. Even if you are an adjunct instructor, when attending the Police Academy as a student you must park in the designated student parking.
BREAKS
As a rule, you will be given a 10 minute break for every 50 minutes of instruction. For your convenience:
- Coffee, hot chocolate, and hot tea upstairs in the Main Office – Suite 242.
- Soft drinks and snack machine are available on the east (opposite) end of the building.
- Please be aware there are no payphones available for student use.
- The restrooms are on the west end near the classrooms.
- If you would like to smoke or otherwise loiter outside during breaks we ask that you do so in the back of the building at the exit near the stairwell.
GENERAL CONDUCT
Our goal here at the Southeast Georgia Police Academy is to provide the highest quality training available. The Staff and Adjunct Instructors are here to conduct training. Any activity that prevents or hinders the class, and is caused by a student will be addressed by the instructor – instructors have the right to dismiss any student for this reason. The student should report immediately to the Director’s Office. The Director, at his discretion, may contact the student’s Chief Executive Officer (Chief, Sheriff, Director, etc.)
In order to maintain an environment that is conducive to training and not disruptive we ask you to comply with the following:
- Please turn off pagers, cellular phones, or other electronic devices that emit noise that may be disruptive.
- Recorders are PROHIBITED
- Please return from the breaks at the designated time.
- Please do not ask to use the telephone in the Main Office as it is disruptive to our operations.
DRESS CODE
All students attending Southeast Georgia Police Academy should present a professional appearance. Students should be conservatively dressed and in compliance with their employing agency’s dress code during training.

- Shirts, hats, etc. that make a “political and/or offensive statement” (determined by the class coordinator and/or Academy Director) are prohibited
Please Note: Advanced/Specialized students who are employed with an agency may wear a weapon with holster as long as they display a badge. Please do not partially conceal the weapon and not wear a badge.
TESTING PROCEDURES
During testing students will observe quiet and will only converse with the instructor if they have a question. The student should have only the designated material (answer sheet, test booklet, and writing utensil) on or near their desk. All other materials should be stored under their desk or otherwise out of view. All test booklets will be issued with a control number. The student must return the same booklet that they were issued. The testing materials will remain in the classroom except when removed by the instructor or other Staff member. Students who use any electronic device during the test may be excused from the class and reported to their employing agency for disciplinary action.
